During my working years, I used to share the decisions I would make with my manager colleagues and get their thoughts and opinions. “An idea is superior to an idea,” and by discussing a thought, you can bring it to a much more effective position. However, some tried to undermine this by telling our CEO, “She can’t make her own decisions; she asks everyone around her about everything.” Mr. Sani listened to these rumors, heard the matter, and said:
“What you are doing is right, but look, there is such a perception around. You need to manage this perception correctly.”
With these words, he gave important feedback and also showed his support for us.
While managing war, coups, and many operational crises, I have always taken Mr. Sani’s approach as an example: Stay calm. First, solve the incident, eliminate the problem, then investigate the root cause and solve it thoroughly. The people you work with during your career path are very important. Their behaviors, approaches to situations, crisis management, leadership qualities, support, and the knowledge they share with you, all the positive and negative aspects they add to you, determine what kind of manager and leader you will be in the advanced stages of your career. If you adopt the right mindset and behaviors, you will benefit greatly. However, if you adopt the wrong ideas, you will experience difficulties.

Throughout my airport career, I worked with many people. By examining everyone’s positive and negative traits, I took lessons for myself. Even the behaviors and actions of a manager who made mistakes taught me important lessons about how not to manage a company or a team in the future.
Most importantly, even if the feedback you receive at that moment does not please you, don’t react immediately. Review and evaluate it calmly. There is definitely something valid in the feedback giver’s point.
At least, it means you have behaved in a way that caused the other party to give negative feedback. From this point, you need to pay attention to the image you project to those around you. Because there will be many people who cannot tolerate your success and will try to harm you at the first opportunity.
May your path be open and free of thorns…
