Joby Aviation has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Kazakhstan-based Alatau Advance Air Group (AAAG) to supply eVTOL aircraft and related services valued at up to USD 250 million, according to an official announcement.

The deal includes pre-delivery payments and is reinforced by a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Joby and Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, aimed at supporting the nation’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) ecosystem.

The Ministry stated its commitment to developing the regulatory framework and infrastructure necessary for integrating air taxis into Kazakhstan’s transport network.

AAAG, which leads the Alatau City development project, a 340-square-mile smart city set to become a major Central Asian hub, is expected to be one of the first operators to launch eVTOL services in the region.

As part of the collaboration, Joby and AAAG will also explore sourcing critical materials such as titanium and rare earth metals from Kazakhstan for aircraft production.

Joby CEO JoeBen Bevirt said,

“We’re applying our proven market-entry strategy in Kazakhstan by working with both the government and a strategic local partner to accelerate commercial operations. Kazakhstan is well-positioned to become a regional hub for advanced air mobility.”

Sergey Khegay, CEO of AAAG, added,

“Our goal is to become Central Asia’s first eVTOL launch operator, establish test facilities and ground infrastructure, and help build a safe and sustainable regulatory environment.”

Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of AI and Digital Development, Zhaslan Madiyev, commented,

“This initiative will strengthen Alatau City as a center for future technologies. We aim to make urban air mobility a reality in Kazakhstan, starting from Alatau and Almaty.”
