Rome, 23 September 2025 – UrbanV and Aeroporti di Roma today launched the Airport AAM Masterclass at Rome Fiumicino Airport’s Innovation Hub, bringing together aviation leaders, regulators, and innovators to explore the integration of advanced air mobility (AAM) into airport ecosystems.

Running until Thursday, 25 September, the Masterclass will feature in-depth sessions, an APOC tour of the Leonardo da Vinci, and the UV-0 test vertiport tour, offering participants a hands-on look at the future of air mobility.

The event opened with a welcome speech by Ivan Bassato, Chairman of UrbanV and Chief Aviation Officer of Aeroporti di Roma, who highlighted the Innovation Hub’s role as an incubator for next-generation airport solutions.

Nicolas Zart, Co-Founder of the Airport AAM Masterclass, praised the strong industry response: “The feedback has been overwhelming, with an incredible line-up of professionals and high-level decision makers. This has been a complete success, and we look forward to our next Master Classes.”

International participants also highlighted the quality of the program. Attendees from the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) commended the expertise of the speakers and the realistic, pragmatic approach taken: “These are not dreamers, but experts sharing grounded insights,” one participant noted.

Throughout the day, experts and moderators tackled the strategic, operational, and regulatory challenges of AAM. Adam Cohen outlined the four types of impact vertiport siting has on the traveler journey, while Borja Blond noted the sector’s growing maturity: “This initiative shows a strong shift from the early hype of AAM to a more realistic and pragmatic approach, backed by aviation experts. No doubt this is paving the way for a consolidated future with solid foundations.”

Other sessions explored airspace integration, financial models, operational readiness, training and certification, and infrastructure revenue strategies. Speakers also examined vertiport design, regulatory frameworks, and technical challenges such as downwash and rotor wash, underscoring the importance of collaboration across the industry.

The first day of the Masterclass concluded with a clear message: the path to AAM requires both visionary innovation and practical, operationally sound solutions.
