As part of an initiative at the center, elderly residents were asked: “If you could go back to being 21, what would you do?”
Among various responses, Türksoy replied, “If I were 21 again, I would want to fly a plane.”
To make her dream a reality, Provincial Director of Family and Social Services İlkay Türkoğlu contacted the Inönü Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK) Aviation Training Center.
After her request was accepted, Türksoy, accompanied by the nursing home’s director, Seyhan Şimşe,k and staff members, traveled to the THK Inönü Aviation Training Center.
There, under the coordination of Training Center Coordinator Ali Zaimoğlu, she had the unforgettable experience of flying in a glider.
Provincial Director Türkoğlu expressed their happiness at helping make Türksoy’s dream come true. He noted that the institution had initiated this project to learn about the dreams their elderly residents once had when they were young.
“We received answers like ‘I wish I could study,’ ‘I wanted to be a world wrestling champion,’ ‘I wanted to open a car workshop,’ ‘I wanted to become a musical artist.’ When 83-year-old Aunt Mürüvvet said she wanted to fly a plane, we contacted the Inönü THK Aviation Training Center and made her dream a reality. She not only flew in a glider but also piloted it. Her joy became our joy. These kinds of social responsibility projects will continue,” he added.
