Turkish Airlines (THY) has formed a dedicated team to take part in potential earthquake and disaster response missions. The training was provided by AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority). According to Aviationext, THY has become the first airline in the world to establish a medical rescue team—an unprecedented milestone in aviation history.
The newly established unit consists of two groups, totaling 70 personnel from within THY.
In the event of an earthquake or other disasters, these THY teams will join and support existing search and rescue operations.
Just as cabin crews once served as nurses in the early days of aviation, they are now acquiring a completely new role.
In Türkiye and around the world, THY teams will be on the frontlines of disaster response—marking a first in aviation history.
