The European Parliament’s Transport Committee has approved a significant regulation that directly affects airline passengers. The committee overwhelmingly supported a proposal that bans airlines from charging extra fees for small cabin luggage. The new regulation aims to ensure more transparent, fair, and affordable air travel across the European Union.
Under the new rules, passengers will be allowed to bring one piece of cabin luggage (up to 7 kilograms) and one personal item (such as a backpack, handbag, or laptop bag) into the cabin free of charge. This decision is intended to protect travelers, particularly from the high baggage fees commonly imposed by low-cost carriers.
A milestone in passenger rights: ticket refunds within 14 days
Another key point in the regulation concerns flight cancellations and long delays. According to the new rules:
- In the event of a cancelled flight or significant delay, ticket costs must be refunded within 14 days.
