İGA Istanbul Airport and Sydney Become “Sister Airports”

İGA Istanbul Airport has added a new milestone to its series of international strategic collaborations. Driven by its vision to enhance service quality and strengthen Türkiye’s position as a global transportation hub, İGA has signed a “Sister Airport Agreement” with Sydney Airport (SYD) in Australia.

The agreement aims to boost passenger and cargo traffic between the two airports, develop air services, and jointly promote both destinations. Within this framework, the parties will collaborate on route development, information sharing, and mutual destination marketing.

As part of the partnership, annual management meetings will be held, and workshops and seminars will be organized when necessary. Both parties will share non-commercially sensitive data and best practices to encourage the development of new air services. In addition, joint marketing activities will help increase awareness of both Istanbul and Sydney as key global destinations.

The “Sister Airport” partnership between İGA Istanbul Airport and Sydney Airport will significantly contribute to the two operators’ goals of sustainable growth, enhanced passenger experience, and global connectivity.

This step not only strengthens İGA’s presence in the Australian market but also reinforces Istanbul’s position in the global aviation landscape. The collaboration with Sydney marks İGA’s 10th Sister Airport agreement, following the one signed in June with Chicago O’Hare International Airport (CDA).

İGA’s existing network of Sister Airports includes:

  • Incheon (South Korea)

  • Capital Airports Holding, Shanghai Airport Authority, and Sichuan Provincial Airport Group (China)

  • Copenhagen Airport (Denmark)

  • Airports of Thailand (Thailand)

  • Airports Corporation of Vietnam (Vietnam)

According to ACI EUROPE’s “Airport Industry Connectivity Report 2025,” İGA Istanbul Airport has surpassed Frankfurt to become the global leader in connectivity. Serving direct flights to over 330 destinations and hosting more than 110 airlines, İGA ranks among the top three airports in the world with the highest number of airlines served.
