What Does a Pilot Experience While Bringing a Brand-New Aircraft?

Adding a new aircraft to an airline’s fleet is always

Adding a new aircraft to an airline’s fleet is always a moment of joy for everyone involved,  from engineers and pilots to press officers, ground crew, and technicians.
But without a doubt, the ones who experience that passion most deeply are the pilots.

Yesterday, the Aviationext team was at Sabiha Gökçen Airport as AJet’s brand-new Boeing 737-8 MAX, registered TC-OHH, landed and joined its new home. TC-OHH became the seventh aircraft added to AJet’s fleet in just three months.

The aircraft was delivered from Boeing’s headquarters in Seattle, with a fuel stop and cockpit crew change in Oslo.

Taking over command to fly the aircraft to its new base was AJet Fleet Captain Alper Durmazpınar, who successfully completed the flight across European airspace and landed safely at Sabiha Gökçen Airport.

We spoke with Captain Durmazpınar about his experience during this important mission of bringing a brand-new aircraft into the fleet.

AJet Fleet Captain Alper Durmazpınar:

“Bringing a brand-new aircraft to our country is a wonderful feeling. It’s a proud moment to deliver a factory-fresh airplane and officially welcome it into the company’s fleet.
Three of our captains flew the aircraft from Seattle to Oslo on a 10-hour journey, where a technical landing was made for refueling. From Oslo, we took over and safely brought the aircraft to Sabiha Gökçen Airport.
Having taken part in previous new aircraft deliveries, I’m quite familiar with the process. You see planes from all around the world waiting there — all brand new. Whenever we see a Turkish registration, whether it belongs to Turkish Airlines or AJet, it fills us with pride and strong national emotion.
There are still three or four of our aircraft waiting on the apron there, ready to join us soon. It’s an incredible honor. I’ve had the privilege of experiencing this pride before at Turkish Airlines, and now I’m living it again at its subsidiary, AJet. We are truly grateful to both our state and Turkish Airlines for making this possible.”
