For airport investments, it is essential that the project is carried out in full harmony with all stakeholders, starting from the design phase and continuing until the airport becomes operational. Otherwise, operational processes may be negatively affected, frequent design revisions may occur during construction, and the timely completion of the project may be put at risk.
For this reason, airport operators establish ORAT (Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer) teams within their organizations or outsource this service. These teams ensure that the project is shaped according to operational needs by sharing the views and requirements of all stakeholders with both the operations and construction teams from the earliest design stage. Throughout the construction period, they closely monitor the progress of each system, identify potential delays, and regularly report to relevant stakeholders. This allows the root causes of delays to be identified early, and helps determine whether a delay in one system will create a chain reaction across the project. Necessary notifications are made, and timely action is taken.
Once systems are ready for operation, the testing process begins. Each system is tested individually, and then all systems are checked for seamless integrated operation. After successful testing, systems are formally accepted. At this point, after the coordinated efforts of hundreds of people, it is finally time to open newly built, renovated, or expanded areas to operation.
TAV has successfully completed almost all of its airport investments ahead of schedule:
-
Istanbul Atatürk Airport International Terminal, 8 months early
-
Tbilisi International Airport Terminal, 2 months early
-
Almaty Airport International Terminal, 2 months early
Istanbul Airport (IGA) has also carried out an airport transfer operation that has been recognized globally as a best-in-class example.
All of this has been made possible through flawless coordination, strong collaboration, and a shared commitment to a common goal.
