AAMG Eyes Acquisition of Lilium’s Assets and Expertise

The Dutch-based Ambitious Air Mobility Group (AAMG) is considering a strategic takeover of Lilium’s core assets, including intellectual property, testing facilities, and critical technical and certification personnel, as part of its efforts to keep the company’s eVTOL aircraft program alive.

Lilium, which again entered insolvency proceedings this February, could benefit from AAMG’s intervention. The group had already signaled its confidence in Lilium by placing firm orders for 16 Lilium Jets ahead of these troubles. AAMG has committed over €250 million in capital for this initiative, with access to an additional €500 million for expansion across Europe and beyond.

AAMG expressed confidence in the technological foundation laid in Bavaria, describing the Lilium platform as a testament to the skill of world-class engineers. It aims to revive development, advance certification, and establish a European supply chain if the deal proceeds.

Our Thoughts

This could be a turning point for Lilium and European eVTOL ambitions. AAMG’s move exemplifies how investment in infrastructure and talent acquisition can keep groundbreaking innovations alive, even in the face of insolvency.

From an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) perspective:

  1. Aircraft programs alone aren’t enough; ownership of IP, facilities, and engineering capability is critical.

  2. AAMG’s willingness to invest in revival, certification, and local manufacturing positions Europe to retain leadership in next-gen aviation.

  3. This could set a precedent for how AAM can preserve innovation, jobs, and industry ecosystems rather than letting failures derail technological progress.
