Aviation enthusiasts and those who want to become pilots often give up on their dreams because the training process is long. Some don’t have the time for pilot training, while others feel discouraged by age restrictions, thinking, “It’s too late for me!” This is especially common in countries where aviation is less developed.
However, single-person electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft have recently entered the market. Especially in the U.S., single-person aircraft that can be flown without a pilot’s license have received hundreds of orders from around the world. Since those sold in the U.S. are classified under the FAA’s ultralight category (Part 103), making some dreams come true is no longer a miracle.
Although light aircraft, also called ultralights, do not require a pilot’s license, the FAA has certain regulations for them. For example, pilots are not allowed to fly over densely populated areas. There are also rules requiring these aircraft to be flown only during daylight. According to FAA regulations, the aircraft’s weight must be under 254 lbs (115 kg), and the maximum speed cannot exceed 63.3 mph (around 101 km/h).
Last month, the world’s largest consumer electronics fair, CES 2026, was held in Las Vegas. Over four days, CES 2026 showcased the latest technologies from global companies as well as innovative startups. Among the pilot license-free eVTOL aircraft introduced at CES 2026 was the Rictor CY X4 Flight Pod. Known simply as the X4, it represents a new category of electric aircraft designed specifically for air travel. Its price under $40,000, compliance with FAA Part 103 ultralight regulations, and lack of pilot license requirements make it particularly notable.
Are you curious about ultralight aircraft like the X4 that don’t require a pilot’s license?

You can fly these aircraft without a license:
1 – Jetson One
The Jetson One is a single-person aircraft weighing 86 kg. It can stay airborne for 20 minutes and reach speeds of up to 102 km/h. Its first test flight took place on November 5, 2023. The company describes it as the “Formula 1 of air vehicles.” The electric aircraft is both lightweight and equipped with powerful motors. Without a pilot onboard, it can hover safely for 5 minutes and is operated via a simple computer system. It is priced at around $130,000.
