The crashes of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in Indonesia and Ethiopia after takeoff in 2018 and 2019 came to mind following today’s accident. However, it has helped us differentiate this incident as unrelated to those crashes due to the distance covered. Neither the distance, altitude, nor the aircraft model is the same. According to experts, the plane crashed due to a loss of engine power. It is suggested that the accident was caused either by maintenance issues or an external factor affecting both engines simultaneously.
I want to look at the situation from a different perspective. With this accident, it seems that the string of bad luck for the US manufacturer continues. Whenever Boeing is about to receive a major aircraft order or appear at a global event, a similar situation occurs. We witnessed this at the Farnborough Airshow and Paris Air Show after 2019.
This causes confusion. The Paris Air Show is only three days away. I can’t help but wonder if it will be another event where Boeing underperforms.
Even if Boeing does not perform poorly at the show, it is clear that this accident will be the first thing everyone talks about.
Yesterday’s accident came at a time when we had almost forgotten about aircraft crashes. It happened just as many airlines were expected to place significant orders with Boeing in Europe—Airbus’s home turf and essentially an away game for Boeing.
I believe it is purely coincidental and just bad luck!
In aviation, especially, an environment where Boeing and Airbus do not compete is not favorable. Without competition, quality does not improve, airline deliveries get delayed, and airlines become stuck in a monotonous system.
