Safety Always Comes First in Aviation

On Friday evening, while sitting with Flight Safety Director Fatih

On Friday evening, while sitting with Flight Safety Director Fatih Mehmet Temel, he suddenly jumped up after receiving an urgent message. The information was clear: a critical software update needed to be implemented immediately on Airbus A320neo aircraft.

At first, the news inevitably reminded many of the back-to-back Boeing 737 MAX accidents. But this time, the picture was different. Airbus did not repeat Boeing’s mistake; instead, it transparently informed all operators in a timely manner.

At the same moment, all airlines operating the A320neo fleet activated their Emergency Response and Airworthiness procedures and swiftly began taking the necessary actions.

The fact that this software issue was detected and resolved before leading to a potential incident is a positive development for the industry. What was disheartening, however, were the unfair and negative reactions by some passengers toward ground handling staff at airports.

In aviation, safety always comes before everything else. Passenger safety and flight safety stand above all operational priorities. Therefore, when human life is at stake, delays are not only understandable, they are necessary and absolutely the right decision.

Even a software update is an inseparable part of airworthiness and safe operations. Delays, cancellations, or additional inspections are, in reality, professional measures taken to protect passengers.

It should never be forgotten: aviation is a form of teamwork that operates flawlessly behind the scenes. From pilots to engineers, from technicians to ground handling staff, everyone shares one common goal: a safe flight.
