Based on reports shared with Aviationext, one issue stands out above the rest: the parking problem at Istanbul Airport. This problem affects both passengers and cabin crews alike.
Istanbul Airport, which holds a leading position both in Europe and globally, is facing a serious parking capacity issue.
Passengers are complaining, and so are the airline crews… Airport authorities are constantly trying to find a solution. I know very well that the management is dedicating significant time and effort to this issue, but the parking area remains inadequate. The same situation exists at Sabiha Gökçen Airport as well.
Since its opening, Istanbul Airport has stood out as the largest and most modern airport. Dominated 83% by Turkish Airlines, its synergy with İGA (Istanbul Grand Airport) has earned it countless awards. While many aspects of the airport are racing toward global leadership, certain details, like this, remain lacking.
However, this parking issue truly needs to be solved somehow. According to the information I’ve received, Turkish Airlines (THY) cockpit and cabin crews are practically battling each other to find a parking space.
A pilot friend of mine told me:
“İGA expanded the parking area and tried to support us. But it’s still not enough. They set up a shuttle system, but the vehicles are small, and we struggle to fit our suitcases. As THY crews, we’re directed to an area far from our operations building. We have to walk a long distance. Especially in bad winter weather, we arrive at our terminal base soaked to the bone.”
I’ve worked with İGA Istanbul Airport officials for years. They think through everything down to the smallest detail and have worked tirelessly to bring our country to a top global position, and they’ve succeeded.
They’ve been continuously expanding the parking facilities, but still, it’s not enough.
Still, I’m confident they’ll solve this issue very soon…
